켈트어로 ‘생명의 물’을 의미하는 스카치 위스키와 스코틀랜드인들의 전통 모직물인 타탄 그리고...백파이프와 드럼으로 연주된 ‘scotland the brave’는 오랫동안 자국의 명예를 위해 싸우는 용맹스런 스코틀랜드 군인들의 행진곡으로 사랑을 받아왔다. 타탄은 스코틀랜드연대 병사를 말함이니 초록빛 타탄의 물결은 초록빛 스코틀랜드연대 병사라 할 수 있겠다. 아래 가사는 스코틀랜드 부대의 군가인 Scotland The Brave(스코틀랜드 용사들)을 John McDermott라는 스코틀랜드계 캐나다 가수가 리메이크한 노래가사이다.   이 노래의 원곡은 지금 'Flower of Scotland'와 함께 스코틀랜드의 비공식 국가로 불리고 있다.  독특한 억양의 스코틀랜드식 영어가 인상적이다.   스코틀랜드는 영국 북부 지역으로 사실 독립국가였는데 1707년에 스코틀랜드에 병합된 지역이다. 지금도 사실 영국 잉글랜드 지역과는 감정이 좋지 않다.  그렇다고 티베트나 위구르,체첸 처럼 무력분쟁이 일어날 정도는 아니고 못마땅해하면서도 그냥 살고 있는 실정이다. 스코틀랜드 독립을 주장하는 사람들도 대부분 무력분쟁보단 국민투표등을 통해서 추진하길 원하고 있다.
